On the first row, knit 7 small snakes and 3 knit stockinette stitches. A variation is to knit 3 crossed stockinette stitches. On the wrong side, purl all the way. On the knit rows, do not knit the first snake stitch (it will gather at that point). Knit like this until you have 12 loops and close the chain. Sew the sides and gather over the snakeskin.
