This week, we're heading to South Cambridgeshire to showcase a project we completed earlier this year. Positioned well away from the main house, our brief was to design a genuine retreat a peaceful haven with sweeping views across the garden and surrounding fields. The structure is a 30-square-metre Kite model, spanning 7.5m in width and 4m in depth. Finished in black with our standard MTX cladding and pinned fascias, the design ensures crisp lines free from visible fixings. To complement the main residence and introduce warmth, we incorporated an oak trim package that creates a striking contrast against the dark exterior. The building boasts impressive 1.7m-wide French doors, flanked by three windows on each side, with the standard Bakers 10-year guarantee and 50-year life expectancy. Inside, the space functions as a dedicated games room dominated by a pool table, alongside a relaxed seating area with bean bags and a sofa. The clients tackled the interior decoration themselves, drawing inspiration from one of our previous projects to employ contrasting denim and deep navy blues—the result is stunning. To ensure year-round comfort, we fitted a black Panasonic climate control unit that integrates seamlessly with the interior's dark palette. A standout feature is the impressive bar area, complete with LED lighting, a Bar Keepers sink, an integrated fridge, and a striking black and copper sparkle glass counter from Southern Counties Glass. Given its distance from the main house, the building is entirely self-sufficient, incorporating a well-appointed toilet and basin that flows naturally with the bar design.
