Elizabethan Priest Hunters, Priest Holes and the Ghosts of Athelhampton House

Athelhampton House is said to be one the most haunted places in all of Dorset. The Martyn family were the lords of Athelhampton house for almost 250 Years. The Martyns were devout Catholics and had Athelhampton House altered in order to hide priests during the time England was under Protestant rule during Elizabeth I and James I. Small secret recesses were placed in the house, and many other houses of wealthy Catholic families, and were called Priestholes. It is said a man wearing a black priest's robe haunts the halls of Athelhampton House and maybe it was it was a priest that was hidden in one of the priestholes of the house long ago.
