South East Gully Scramble on Gimmer Crag - this is frightening!

This is a PoV video of my ascent of the South - East Gully on Gimmer Crag. I had two false starts up the gully, initially I was too far left and then realised that I was too low. I walked up the hillside to almost a level with Loft Crag and traversed into the gully from that height. The actual start is on the absolute right hand side of the gully. The initial scramble up the gully is very pleasant, however from about half height the scramble becomes a nerve wracking battle with vegetation and occasional good sections of clean rock. Once I arrived at the abseil station things began to get a little hairy, in fact I did consider back climbing the whole length of the scramble. At this point the route seemed to want to follow a highly vegetated gully but I could not easily see a way down into it. I noticed that there were a series of small ledges on the right hand side of the gully and I climbed up and found that I was able to swing into the gully by making a committing very wide bridging move. Once I established in the gully the vegetation was not too bad to grapple with and the narrowing gully was surprisingly nice to climb up using a combination of very polished rock and plant life as hand and foot holds. As i ascended the very narrow gully there difficulty eased off significantly. Thank God! As a word of warning I would not recommend that you attempt this scramble unless it has been dry for a few days prior and I would also recommend that you have significant rock climbing and scrambling experience. The route is given grade 2*, perhaps it was me but I personally found this scramble more challenging than Middle Fell Buttress which I had soloed earlier in the day. Perhaps with more traffic the route would become a very popular an atmospheric adventure! #rockclimbing #scrambling #langdalepikes #lakedistrict
