The Uncertain Future of Disney’s MOST HATED Ride: Mission: Space
Since Mission: Space opened at Epcot in 2003, it has stunned, entertained and nauseated millions of guests. Regarded as Walt Disney World’s roughest ride at present - and one of its roughest in history - Mission: Space is a frequent miss for many park goers. Mission: Space was built on the ruins of the beloved Horizons attraction, which closed in 1999, and many die-hard fans have held issue with Mission: Space since, asking how such a beloved ride could be replaced by a simulator. As such, the ride has faced a lot of criticism since opening and quickly gained status as one of Disney’s most hated existing rides. Considering the above, how is a ride this badly-regarded still operating and - in terms of theme park maintenance - thriving, having received a major overhaul less than a decade ago, despite losing a sponsor? In this video, we explore the wider history of both Epcot and the almost-forgotten Space Pavilion, how Mission: Space came to be, and the future of the ride, looking at why its still present when so many other rides have been lost to time.
