In football, more specifically, technical talent without effort is overrated, no... beyond overrated. For me personally, talent without effort, or with little effort, is useless. It's not professional, it's not competitive, it's not sport, it's not football... In today's football landscape, where players earn more and more and gain more fame through social media, it's very difficult for them not to fall prey to tremendous distractions and the traps of ego. If there isn't a club structure, a shared mentality among the coach, sporting director, and board—from the bottom up and from the top down—that instills the understanding that football is a job, and that if we have the hardest-working players, we'll surpass everyone else, we'll be making a grave mistake. In my mind, Barça should be the club of the Michels/Cruyff philosophy in tactical and technical terms, but also the club where the philosophy is to "enjoy competing." Those who enjoy competing never stop improving day after day; those who don't... subtract more than they add, and that's a fact.
