“What does good policing look like?” UofSC law professor and researcher Seth Stoughton uses his background in law enforcement and law to tackle the question, and his answer is “guardian policing.” Stoughton believes guardian policing will improve safety for all, better protect civil rights and make officers more effective. It’s not a new concept, as he explains, but Stoughton has worked to define the concept and show how to apply it in modern society. Seth Stoughton is a law professor whose scholarship focuses on the regulation of police and policing issues. Prior to becoming a law professor, Seth Stoughton served as an officer with the Tallahassee Police Department for five years.
