Reading Counter-Revolutionaries: Frank Kitson’s Low Intensity Operations with Orisanmi Burton

In this episode Orisanmi Burton will return to the show to discuss Frank Kitson and his book Low Intensity Operations, which is an important text in the fields of counterinsurgency, pacification, and/or counter-revolutionary studies. Dr. Burton will discuss Frank Kitson a bit as a historical figure, one involved in counterinsurgency operations in Cyprus, Kenya, Ireland, Malaysia, Oman, and Yemen. We will also talk about how we seek to read texts within these traditions against the grain of the authors' intentions. Orisanmi Burton, is the author of the must-read book The Tip of the Spear: Black Radicalism, Prison Repression, and the Long Attica Revolt: https://massivebookshop.com/products/... He is an assistant professor of anthropology. As a social anthropologist, his research examines the imbrication of grassroots resistance and state repression. Within this broad area of inquiry, his present work explores the collision of Black-led movements for social, political, and economic transformation with state infrastructures of militarized policing, surveillance, and imprisonment. Dr. Burton has also been a guest on 5 previous episodes of MAKC: https://millennialsarekillingcapitali... To support our work, kick into our patreon at   / millennialsarekillingcapitalism
