20190711 Centerboard Line Repair

This shows how to repair a centerboard line on a Gemini catamaran by installing an eye screw under the winch drum. Gemini centerboards come with three undersized pad eyes to which the lifting line is attached. All three had broken and a previous owner had drilled a hole through the centerboard and tied the line through it. The line broke and I replaced it but simply tied the new line to the loop of the old line that was left. The configuration didn't allow the board to be fully retracted. The line ran too far aft. Instead of lifting up on the board a lot of the force was wasted pulling forward. The knots in the line jammed against a bolt and stopped the board from coming all the way up. Only later did I learn I could screw an eye into the top of the board and attach the line there, solving both problems so the board could be raised more easily and would retract completely into the hull.
