A stretch of land encompassing the Conjunto Palmeiras and Jangurussu neighborhoods in Fortaleza has been marked by a dispute between criminal factions. The region lives under constant tension, with borders defined by crime and residents living daily with the risk of violence. The Jangadeiro Journalism team had exclusive access to a map prepared by the Civil Police that reveals the territorial division between three factions vying for control of the area: Comando Vermelho (CV), Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP), and Turma do Norte (TDN). According to the document, Avenida Castelo de Castro acts as a dividing line between the rival groups. On one side, the domain of one organization; on the other, enemy territory. The map shows that the dispute extends over a wide region, including the neighborhoods of Conjunto Palmeiras, Jangurussu, Anchieta, Barroso II, and parts of Parque Santa Maria. According to the police analysis, Comando Vermelho dominates a large territory, with two smaller support areas. The TCP occupies a similarly sized region, while the TDN maintains two main areas and a third smaller one, near Jangurussu. For those who live in these neighborhoods, any movement can mean risk.
