Beth McNally & Amy Rush - 'TCR in Practice: Navigating Insulin for Protein & Fat in Type 1 Diabetes'
Beth McNally is the co-founder of T1D Nutrition, a company providing the support and education that people with Type 1 Diabetes need in order to thrive. She has earned a Masters in Science in Nutrition & Integrative Health from Maryland University of Integrative Health and another Masters in Public Policy from the University of Sydney. After here son was diagnosed with T1D in 2015 Beth and her husband began researching like crazy in order to learn how to prevent the long and short term risks of the disease. They came to realise that one of the best ways to reduce diabetes complications is to keep blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible. This led them to adopt an approach to T1D care for their son that would revolutionise his life and theirs, Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction. Amy Rush is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Credentialed Diabetes Educator working with people living with Type 1 Diabetes. Her passion to help improve the lives of people with Type 1 is inspired by her brother, who was diagnosed at a young age. This passion has lead her to have been awarded West Australian Credentialed Diabetes Educator (CDE) of the year for 2018. Amy practices privately as both a diabetes educator and dietitian at the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre in Perth, where she also develops and manages the group diabetes education programs. Amy is passionate about the role of nutrition in managing Type 1 Diabetes. Amy is a self-confessed ‘tech nerd’ and loves interpreting CGM and flash monitor graphs or constructing profiles from pump and meter readings. In clinic she is known as the ‘Diabetes Detective’ for her knack at deciphering food and insulin interactions and using these to a patient’s advantage.
