Both the Nest and Nest E are high quality smart thermostats however they do have some significant differences that could affect your installation. Both smart thermostats allow for wifi control of the nest thermostat remotely via the Nest app or with voice commands using Alexa or Google Home. The remote control of the smart thermostats works in your home or even if you are away from your home as long as your cell phone has internet connectivity. Both the Nest E and Nest will work with the Nest temperature sensors allowing you to precisely control the temperature of the specific rooms you place a Nest Temperature sensor in. The major differences between the Nest vs Nest E come down to the looks, system compatibility and a built in motion sensor. Motion Sensor: Nest Gen 3 vs Nest E The Nest Generation 3 has a built in motion sensor that works with the Nest app to detect if your are home or away. The Nest E does not have a motion sensor. With built in motion sensor on the Nest Generation 3 functions to detect if you are home or away and uses this information to create auto schedules. The build in motion sensor also enables the "Farsight" feature on the Nest Gen 3 which will automatically light up the display when motion is detected in front of the thermostat. The Nest E does not have the farsight feature. The Nest E can also create auto schedules but it does not use a motion sensor, the Nest E uses the GPS location on your phone to detect if you are home and uses your daily inputs into the Nest E to create an auto schedule. Finishes & Looks: Nest Gen 3 vs Nest E The Nest Gen 3 has a higher resolution full color screen and display. With a polished metal outer ring. The Nest Gen 3 has several different finishes to choose from including stainless, bronze, white, black and polished stainless. The Nest E comes in only one finish with a lower resolution frosted glass display with a white plastic outer ring, and white finish. Nest vs Nest E Compatibility: The Nest Gen 3 is compatible with more systems than the Nest E because the Nest Gen 3 has 10 terminals vs 6 terminals for the Nest E. The Nest Gen 3 is compatible with dual fuel systems like a system where you might have a boiler and a seperate AC unit. It can accept power signals from 2 different units and operate properly. The Nest E is not compatible with dual fuel systems. The Nest Gen 3 also has a separate terminal for heat pump systems where as the Nest E thermostat has a shared terminal that can either be used for a heat pump/humidifier or dehumidifier, but you can't have a heat pump and a humidifier or dehumidifier where as with the Nest Gen 3 you can. The Nest Gen 3 smart thermostat is compatible with heating and cooling systems that have 2 stage heating and/or cooling while the Nest E is not compatible with 2 stage heating or cooling. **Join the email list: http://eepurl.com/0KDob ** Our Website: https://www.onehoursmarthome.com/ Podcast: https://www.onehoursmarthome.com/podc...
