He accepted that the reason he earned more was not to possess more, but to share more. "Giving" and "sharing" are duties we ought to perform before God, and at the same time, they are honorable privileges for which heavenly rewards are promised. Offering material possessions to the Lord is not merely an act of giving away a portion of money. It is a holy act of worship that confesses that the master of my life and finances is not me, but God alone, and proclaims through our daily lives the fact that I exist for the Lord, not that He exists for me. When we cling to material possessions, we are prone to falling into the illusion that we fully possess and control them. However, when we give to the Lord with joy and extend our hands to neighbors in need, the chains of Mammon that seek to bind us as slaves to finances are broken, and we confess once again that everything comes from the Lord. Before every offering and sharing, we must honestly ask ourselves: Who is the true owner of these finances? For whose glory am I giving?
