At Mariscos Chava inside the local market, the classic Guadalajaran dish torta ahogada gets a seafood twist — swap the pork for shrimp and drown it in a thick tomato chili sauce. Worth every messy bite. Beyond the food, the streets are lined with public art celebrating Indigenous Mexican artisans, Casa Luna serves traditional corn cake with guava and excellent coffee, and El Parián — home to the world's largest cantina since 1892 — is the place to sip a Cazuela cocktail while live mariachis play from the center bandstand. Skip the weekend crowds and come on a weekday.
