I made up this recipe a few years back and my family requests it every Autumn. I an up enough to last 2 years in case we don't have a good apple harvest the following year. Janie & John Pendleton Recipe: Start with one bag of baking apples (either granny smith or Jonathons work great for baking apples)... then put in crock pot with enough water and 2 TBS of lemon juice and cook down for several hours (till fork tender and they fall apart in the crock pot). Put through a sieve like a 'ricer' to rid of skins and get fine pulp in a bowl. Put back in clean crock pot and turn on high. Cook for additional few hours (don't let it start to brown like you would for applebutter). When it thickens and shows a 'trace'...it is ready for spices, like cinnamon, red hot candies, sugar (if needed) and another other berry juice if desired. Water bath can applesauce for recommended times in this video. You will love this recipe.
