Switching OFF your pond in WINTER - Good or Bad? 😵😭😰😂

In this video, we show that switching off your pond in the winter is a bad idea. During the winter months, even in cold snaps, you need to keep your pond pump running. Your pond water passing through your pipework and filtration system is warmer than the outside air temperature so it is impossible to freeze. Especially with the speeds most pond pumps actually shift the water through your system. Your filter will effectively die each time you switch your pump off as the good bacteria that live in your system also need oxygen and food to survive. Pipework will freeze/split if people switch off their pumps and leave water in the pipework which will freeze in subzero temperatures. Waterfalls you can keep an eye on, some may freeze up some may not as it depends on depth and temperature or flow rate. Ideally, build a water fall so you can bypass it should you need to switch it off without switching off your filter system. All ponds, lakes etc in the coldest countries, at the bottom will never get colder than 4 degrees. At 4 degrees water is its most dense so it sinks to the bottom and colder water will rise above it.
