Going to JB With Grab? Here’s How the New Service Works
The Blue Cats’ website: https://www.thebluecats.com.sg/ The Blue Cats' Instagram: / singaporethebluecats -------- From 4 May 2026, Grab launched Cross-Border SG-JB (Beta), allowing users to book licensed cross-border taxis through the Grab app. This is part of an enhanced Cross-Border Taxi Scheme jointly announced by Singapore and Malaysia on 30 April 2026. Grab is the first company to receive the Cross-Border Ride-Hail Service Operator Licence, but the vehicles are still licensed cross-border taxis, not normal private-hire cars. Before this, legal cross-border taxis mainly operated through Ban San Street Terminal near Bugis. Passengers could take a licensed taxi from Singapore to Larkin Sentral Terminal in Johor Bahru for a fixed fare, but the drop-off point was limited. Because of this inconvenience, illegal transport services offering rides from Singapore to various places in Malaysia became common, especially through online advertisements. For trips from Singapore to Malaysia, passengers can book through the Grab app under “SG - JB (Beta)”. The taxi can pick passengers up from anywhere in Singapore and drop them off anywhere in Johor Bahru. Bookings must be made at least 12 hours in advance and up to 7 days ahead. Fares vary depending on time, distance and holiday periods, with an introductory discount of up to 20% using the CBTSG promo code, valid until 2 August 2026. For trips from Malaysia back to Singapore, the rules are different. Singapore-registered taxis can only pick passengers up from designated points in Malaysia, namely Toppen Shopping Centre, Mid Valley Southkey Mall, Angsana Mall or Larkin Sentral Terminal, before dropping them anywhere in Singapore. Malaysia taxis, however, can pick passengers up from approved Johor operating areas and drop them anywhere in Singapore. The scheme covers all of Singapore, but in Malaysia, it only applies to Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai.
