While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Anthology Version)- The Beatles (Guitar Cover)

Happy Birthday ‪@GeorgeHarrisonOfficial‬ He would've been 82 today! Thanks to ‪@ModShoes‬ for this “Harrison White Album” Stripe Shirt. It's an awesome replica of the shirt George wore for the White Album portraits This is the acoustic version of Gently Weeps that George recorded early in the White Album sessions, on July 25, 1968. There was also a harmonium part played on this recording, possibly overdubbed. It was released on Anthology 3 in 1996 It is in the key of G minor, unlike the album version which is played in A minor. George played it with a capo on the 5th fret, using a D minor shape He used his new Gibson J-200 guitar, which he bought at Manny's in New York in early June 1968. He did use his Gibson J-160e for the Esher demos in May 1968, which included a similar acoustic version of Gently Weeps I'm playing my 1970's Ibanez Jamboree, which is a Japanese copy of a Gibson J-200. I added reverb afterwards to my track- the Waves Abbey Road Plates plug-in. This was an attempt to match the sound Geoff Emerick created when mixing Anthology in the 1990's INTERESTING NOTES: 0:09 George plays a great hammer-on from Dsus2 to Dm 0:13 George hits the low A-string, then plays Dm with that open A as well 0:49 During the choruses, he often sustains the F-sharp minor chords. Playing them in a unique upstrum pattern 2:03 George plays A7's for the only time 2:48 George goes to the Dm, then remembers he was supposed to go to F 3:00 George loops this Dm to C progression until it fades out. A cool note is that he releases to the D string subtly each time after playing 2nd fret of D MY GEAR: Ibanez Jamboree 698 Neumann TLM-103 #thebeatles #georgeharrison #whilemyguitargentlyweeps
