Selami Yıldız, appointed Istanbul Police Chief by a decision published in the Official Gazette, has begun his duties. At a handover ceremony held at the Istanbul Police Headquarters, Yıldız accepted the position from Zafer Aktaş, who retired due to age restrictions. Aktaş welcomed Yıldız at the Vatan Campus and introduced him to the police chiefs on duty. Yıldız presented flowers to Aktaş at the Provincial Police Headquarters office and, in his speech, stated that efforts to ensure the peace and security of Istanbul will continue with determination. Emphasizing that the fight against terrorism, organized crime groups, and drug dealers will continue, Yıldız said, "With the support of our people in Istanbul, we will spare no sacrifice in this struggle. I hope this flag change will be beneficial for Istanbul, our country, and our organization. I also wish our director a happy retirement." Zafer Aktaş noted that during his 4.5 years on the job, the entire organization has worked tirelessly to ensure the peace and security of Istanbul and the safety of citizens. Aktaş, noting his nearly 45-year career, said, "I am retiring from the organization where I had the honor of serving my country and nation with the peace of mind of having fulfilled my duty. Our brother, Selami, is a friend of ours who we previously saw as a successor and predecessor in Adana. With his knowledge, skills, experience, and career, I believe he will fulfill his duties in Istanbul with dignity. I wish him success in his new role. I bid you all farewell. May God protect you, and may you forgive us."
