How Everything Begun: Redoing The Mini Lathe Compound Slide. Again? Yes, Again! Part 1/2

Part 2/2:    • Mini Lathe Compound Slide Rebuild to High ...   Almost exactly 3 years ago, I started my first project on my Mini Lathe: installing proper bearings to the lathes compound slide. At the same time I thought to myselft why not filming the build process, make a video about it and drop it on Youtube?! This was the beginning of my little Youtube-channel here. Since then the channel grew quite constantly and a lot of videos about Mini Lathe modifications and toolmaking projects followed. Now it's time to redo the very first modification. The original fine threaded spindle has to go and the thrust needle bearing will be replaced by small angular contact bearings. In addition to that I made a complete new dial with a proper locking mechanism. As the project was again a bit more complicated than I thought at first, I splitted the build process into two videos. In this first episode I share the design thoughts and make the bearing block, the dial and the dial clamping nut. In the second part I will finish the project with making the new acme thread spindle with a miniature anti backlash nut and some small parts to complete the assembly. And with all that done there is hopefulle only one thing left to do... scraping everything in. But that's for another story ;) I hope you enjoy this video. Let me know what you think in the comments.
