Sherlock Holmes reveals to Dr. Watson that he is being targeted by Professor Moriarty, a criminal mastermind behind much of London's organized crime. Holmes narrowly escapes several assassination attempts orchestrated by Moriarty and decides to flee England with Watson to evade danger and gather evidence against the professor. The two travel across Europe, but Moriarty pursues them relentlessly. Eventually, Holmes and Moriarty confront each other at the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland. Watson is lured away, and when he returns, he finds signs of a struggle near the edge of the falls—but no bodies. Holmes is presumed dead.
