The Battle of Camden - The Continental Army's Worst Defeat | The Liberty Trail
In August of 1780, intent on liberating the state of South Carolina from British control, Horatio Gates moved his army down The Great Wagon Road towards Camden. North of town, Lord Charles Cornwallis met the Continental forces, and subsequently delivered one of the most devastating defeats of the Revolutionary War for the Patriots. Today, the Camden Battlefield is one of the most well preserved in the country, and is home to frequent archaeological studies to aid in learning more about the American Revolution. Dan Davis and Andy Poulton of the American Battlefield Trust are joined by special guest Rick Wise of the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust for a tour of the battlefield.
