Introduction Last Friday, the long-awaited Prayer of Lifelong Repentance (Pastor Jeong Bo-bae, Institute for Repentance and the Gospel of Heaven) was published. Since Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, many people have created prayers for repentance; however, this prayer incorporates various materials published over time as well as insights gained from actual exorcism sessions. This prayer will guide you to repent of both the sins committed by your ancestors and the sins you have committed yourself. Repenting of ancestral sins is not about changing the eternal destiny of your ancestors or bearing the guilt they deserve. In fact, we must clearly distinguish between the issue of receiving salvation by believing in Jesus and repenting of one's own sins, and the issue of escaping the curses and the influence of evil spirits that have descended upon descendants due to the sins of their ancestors. The Christian community has long cautioned against repenting of ancestral sins, defining it as synonymous with the "theory of generational curses." It has been criticized as a superstitious practice or shamanistic black magic, a variation of salvation by works, and a denial of the completeness and sufficiency of Christ's atoning work. There have also been claims that it weakens the hope of heaven, leads people to blame their ancestors, and causes them to reject repentance. However, we must re-examine whether these judgments accurately grasp the actual teachings of repentance for ancestral sins, and whether the biblical verses presented as grounds have been interpreted in context. Those who oppose repentance for ancestral sins primarily cite four passages. First, the passage from Galatians stating that the law will remain only until the promised descendants come, and that Christians must not return to weak and shallow elementary principles. Second, the passage from Ezekiel stating that the Son does not bear the iniquity of the Father. Third, the passage from Paul stating that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. Fourth, the direct statement from Jesus that the disability of a man born blind is not due to the sin of the man or his parents. The problem does not lie in the fact that these passages are incorrect. It lies in using them as grounds to deny all the effects of ancestral sin without distinguishing what each passage refers to. In fact, the fact that Jesus came as the Messiah does not mean that the laws of the Ten Commandments, which judge human right and wrong, have completely disappeared. Furthermore, the fact that Christ bore the curse does not mean that unrepented sins and the evil spirits operating based on those sins will automatically depart. Even after believing, repentance involving confessing one's sins and washing one's robes is necessary (Rev. 22:14). Repentance for ancestral sins is not an act intended to add to the conditions of salvation, but rather a repentance meant to accept the words of the Ten Commandments as they are and to break free from the temporal and spiritual influences inherited from the sins of one's ancestors. Therefore, in this session, we intend to examine how repentance for ancestral sins is distinguished from salvation and liberation from the curse, why the Ten Commandments remain valid even after Jesus came, how to correctly understand the four biblical passages presented as counter-arguments, and how confessing repentance transforms one's life and spiritual state. 2.
