In today's video, I've reached the sixth and final day of egg collection for another incubation here at Granja Mascarenhas. I collected 55 eggs from different pens, focusing mainly on naked-neck breeds, as well as crossbred birds, carijó breeds, and crosses geared towards production and hardiness. I show how I select the eggs, the care taken before incubation, and the importance of candling to identify microcracks, air cell problems, and other flaws that can compromise embryo development. I also share a scare I had with the incubator, which experienced overheating a few days before incubation. Fortunately, I managed to resolve the problem in time and took the opportunity to talk about the importance of having backup equipment for those who work with poultry reproduction. Furthermore, I explain why I consider this time of year an opportunity to produce chicks, even though winter is approaching, and how this strategy can help maintain a more balanced egg production throughout the year. Now we just have to hope that the fertility of the breeders is high and that this incubation brings excellent results.
