PARQUE METROPOLITANO DE STGO / conocimos el Cerro san Cristóbal junto a Alejandro de la Cruz
🌄 A green lung in the heart of the capital with Alejandro de la Cruz Dawn breaks in Santiago, and although the thermometer reads below zero, the clear sky promises memorable views. We arrive at the main entrance of Parque Metropolitano—Chile's largest urban park—to ascend the 300 meters that separate the city from the summit of Cerro San Cristóbal (880 meters above sea level). 🚶♂️ The hike The path winds through thorn bushes, flowering mimosa trees, and cyclists challenging the incline. At each bend, the city noise fades, and the scent of damp earth reminds us that this forest was planted a century ago to prevent erosion of the hills. 🎎 Japanese Garden First stop: 500 square meters of ponds, cherry trees, and stone lanterns designed in 1978 as a symbol of friendship between Chile and Japan. As the water cascades over volcanic rocks, the Costanera Center looms in the distance, reminding us that the metropolis is just steps away. 🏊 Tupahue and its pools We continue on to Tupahue, an intermediate station of the cable car and home to an Olympic-size swimming pool surrounded by pine and eucalyptus trees. Here the route forks: an asphalt path for bikes and a dirt trail for those seeking a mini-trek in the shade. 💨 Winter panorama (and smog) Halfway up the hill, the view over Santiago becomes hazy: the classic temperature inversion traps the smog under a gray dome. Even so, the snow-capped Andes emerge as the perfect backdrop for a breath of fresh air… and a reminder of the city's environmental challenge. ⛪ Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception At the summit, we are greeted by the 14-meter-tall white statue that crowns the amphitheater. Circular benches, stands selling mote con huesillo (a Chilean drink), and a 360° viewpoint make this spot a favorite among the park's 7 million annual visitors. 🚠 Centennial Funicular & Panoramic Cable Car After a ride on the funicular (which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025), we boarded the cable car to descend over treetops and radio antennas. Large windows, a floating silence, and a ticket worth every penny: the most epic way to return to the city in under ten minutes. What will you find in the video? A complete walking tour, from the Pedro de Valdivia station to the summit. Historical details of the park (founded in 1916, 139 hectares). The contrast between the oriental tranquility of the Japanese Garden and the urban rhythm of Santiago. Aerial views from the cable car and information about its upcoming expansion. Practical tips: schedules, prices, and access. 💬 Tell us in the comments: Would you cycle up, walk, or take the funicular? 👍 Like this post if you love urban parks and 🔔 subscribe for more nature and adventure episodes every week. #AmongLandscapes #MetropolitanPark #SanCristóbalHill #SantiagoChile #TravelVlog -- For collaborations, write to: [email protected] Buy our Merch: https://www.webpay.cl/company/158214 Follow us on our social media: / entrepaisajes_ Alejandro's social media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mab.delacru...
