Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, a prominent American civil rights leader who worked closely with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and continued his work after his death, died on Feb. 17, 2026. His death marked the end of a turbulent political era in the United States. Jackson visited Seattle in 1974 and twice in 1985 to speak about race relations, apartheid South Africa, and drugs in schools.
