Şair Celali - Bayburtlu Şairler

Poet Celali was a poet from Bayburt. Born in 1850 in the village of Ozansu, Bayburt, Celali's real name was Ahmet. Born into a poor family, Celali earned his living as a shepherd and farmhand in the village. His interest in poetry began at an early age, and he sang his first ballads as a child. Celali, who completed his madrasa education in the village of Çayıryolu, Bayburt, composed all his ballads and epics exclusively in verse, never using the saz instrument. He recounted the events he encountered throughout his life in his poems and expressed his Sufi views with great skill in his ballads and epics. He traveled to surrounding provinces and formed close friendships with many bards, especially Narmanlı Sümmani. A quiet man who harbored no ill intentions, Celali rebuked injustice through his poetry. His ballads and epics, rendered with the finest examples of folk language and idioms, possess a heartfelt fervor. Poet Celâli passed away in 1915.
