Bolt Action | Battle Report | Rangers Lead the Way

Intelligence reports confirmed that there are three key objectives that needed to be secured in a nearby town, the task was given to the US Rangers to complete. Reports were that a German staff car carrying top secret documents had been intercepted by an Allied aircraft, causing it to crash in the centre of the town. The injured German officers had taken refuge near the town hall and were waiting to be rescued. There was also a valuable fuel truck parked on the far side of the town that had been travelling with the German staff car. The mission was simple, secure the top secret documents, capture the German officers for interrogation and return with the fuel truck. Led by their Second Lieutenant, three US Ranger squads entered the far side of the town, each tasked to take one of the key objectives. Unfortunately, German Fallschirmjäger units had already reached the outskirts of the town and were moving up to protect the injured German officers and their assets. To the far side of the town, the US Rangers could see a German medium howitzer moving into position in the ruins of an old building to cover the centre of the town. As a firefight started between the opposing forces, an initial lucky shot from the German medium mortar team exploded on top of one of the advancing US Ranger squads, killing two men instantly as the rest of the group ran for cover behind one of the buildings. Seeing the strong resistance his platoon was encountering the Second Lieutenant called up mechanised support in the form of an M8 Greyhound armoured car and an M18 Hellcat; this would give him the edge he thought. The Hellcat immediately spotted a German medium machine gun setting up in the building across from the town hall, firing into the building with an HE shell from its Heavy anti-tank gun it obliterated the three man German team. At the same time the gunner on the pintle mounted Heavy Machine Gun provided supressing fire... Bolt Action is a miniature wargame produced by Warlord Games set during World War II and uses 28mm models. It is a platoon sized game that puts you in command of infantry and armoured vehicles in a historical setting. Developed by Alessio Cavatore and Rick Priestley, it was first published in 2012, with a revised second edition released in 2016.
