Building a Mobile Gantry Crane From Scratch — Full DIY Project

In this video, I build a mobile gantry crane designed for both workshop use and outdoor lifting and moving of heavy objects. All the materials used in this project came from an online store that sells various industrial leftovers. Since every piece came in different lengths, I had to design the crane’s dimensions around the materials I had. Structurally, the crane is very similar to commercial models, but mine includes a few custom features. For the wheels, I used old car rims. This gives the crane excellent mobility on rough surfaces such as gravel and soil. One side of the wheel assembly can also pivot, making the crane much easier to maneuver in tight spaces. To increase load capacity and stability, I added detachable support legs that can be lowered when needed. For the main materials, I used an IPE 160 beam for the top section, and 100x100x6 mm box tubing for the posts and base. The top beam is bolted to the posts, allowing the height to be increased or the beam replaced with a longer one in the future.
