Vivekachootamani Sloka 3 Aaradhana Foundation
Śaṅkarācārya says that spiritual life begins with three great blessings. First, manuṣyatvam — human birth. A human being alone has the ability to think deeply: “Who am I? What is the purpose of life? What is permanent?” Second, mumukṣutvam — the desire for mokṣa. Many people get human birth, but not everyone wants liberation. Most people seek only comfort, success, pleasure, or security. The desire for freedom from ignorance is rare. Third, mahāpuruṣa-saṃśrayaḥ — the guidance of a great teacher. Even if we have spiritual longing, we need the help of a realized Guru or a noble teacher who can show the path clearly.
