To celebrate AKB48's 20th anniversary, Atsuko Maeda and Minami Takahashi shared a special, unscripted conversation over a glass of The Premium Malt's. In the second half of the conversation, they reminisced about the highly anticipated General Election. Looking back on that time, the two candidly shared their thoughts, saying, "It changed my life," and "If I were asked to do it again, I would never do it, but in the end, maybe it was a good thing. It took so much time to get to the point where we could have checked the results." When Takahashi remarked, "You looked like you were in a difficult position back then, too," Maeda confessed, "I hated it..." She also shared her feelings at the time. Maeda also discussed the background behind the General Election. "Akimoto-sensei nominated me to be the center, and there were a lot of voices saying that they weren't happy with that, so it all started. I had said things like, 'I don't want to do it.' Akimoto-sensei was the one who brought it up, right? But I think he wanted me to prove that what he was saying wasn't wrong. It was just pressure," she said, reflecting on the pressure she was under at the time.
