How to Properly Double Flare a Brake or Fuel Line
How to make a double flare on a brake line. In order to do a double flare, you will need a double flaring tool kit. A kit normally comes with various dies that fits different size lines, clamp, and cone tool. It's important to produce a high quality flare and use the correct flare in order to get a leak free connection. A double flare can be used on brake systems, fuel systems, and oil supply systems, this will vary between vehicles. #brakes #brakerepair #mechanic Website: http://4diyers.com Patreon: / 4diyers Facebook: / 4diyers Google Plus: https://plus.google.com/+4DIYers Twitter: / 4diyers Instagram: / 4diyers Tumblr: / 4diyers Pintrest: / 4diyers Tools/Supplies Needed: -double flaring tool kit -lubricating oil -clean rag -file -fittings Procedure: -cut the line to size using a line cutter -simply install the cutter, tighten it, spin the cutter, then tighten again one loose and repeat until the line separates -when cutting the line a burr will form, use the de-burring tool on the back of the cutter if equipped -stick the de-burring tool in the hole, applying medium pressure and rotate -I also like touching up the end with a file and be sure to face the line down in the end to remove any metal filings -we will need to ensure the clamp is clean, both the jaws where the line sits and the surfaces that face each other -if there is any dirt or it can't clamp tight enough, the line will slip, causing flare issues -even use a little brake cleaner if needed to clean off any oil residue -install the fitting first, otherwise you won't get it on after the flare has been done -the side which is being flared must be on the chamfered side of the clamp -the line should be exposed the same thickness as the large side of the die -there are various dies available based on what size line is used which is determined by which fits best within the inside of the line -ensure the clamp is tightened down well as we do not want the line slipping which will cause flaring issues -apply a small amount of oil to the end of the die and do this after the line has been tightened securely in the clamp -this isn't necessarily needed, but it does help with achieving a high quality flare -insert the dowel end in the line -next install the cone tool which will push the die into place, forming the line -the cone will have a depressed area it sits into on the die -tighten the cone tool until it stops -for added assistance, the line clamp can be tightened in a vise -reinstall the cone tool so the flare can be folded down -again tighten until it stops, there should be some oil residue left over, but if desired apply a touch more oil which provides some lubrication -finally the flare is done and ready to be installed Thank you to all those who watch my videos and support my content.
