The Rayagada to Koraput stretch winds through Odisha’s Eastern Ghats, one of India’s most scenic rail corridors during monsoon. This 170km route carves through misty valleys and dense forests, with the train curving past dozens of tunnels and viaducts as it climbs and descends the hills. The lush greenery, low clouds, and rhythmic sound of the engine against the mountain backdrop make it a favorite among railfans and travelers seeking raw, untouched landscapes. Built with Japanese technology in the 1990s to transport iron ore and bauxite, the line features around 36 tunnels and 76 bridges along steep curves, earning it the nickname “Kashmir of Odisha.” During the rains, the section transforms into a green tunnel of clouds and foliage, offering a quiet, immersive journey far from mobile networks.
