This week's "Documentary 3 Days" documented the intense 72 hours of dawn delivery workers. ■ People at the Logistics Center At 4:30 p.m., as the dipping sunlight begins to fade, the night shift at the logistics center begins its shift. The primary tasks of the logistics center workers are "picking" and "packing." The picking team, known as "picking men," gathers ordered items into shopping carts, and the packing team neatly packs them into boxes for delivery. The "picking men," who carry out grocery shopping for 15 households at a time, take an average of 20 to 30 minutes to complete their picks throughout the logistics center. To handle an average of 20,000 orders per day, the picking team, consisting of approximately 150 people, tirelessly pushes their carts. Packaging is more than simply putting items into a cart. Once the picked baskets are filled with items and invoices, they must compare the order list with the actual items in the baskets to ensure there are no missing items. They also inspect the items closely to ensure there are no unsatisfactory items. The packaging method is also crucial, as frozen, refrigerated, and room-temperature products are packaged together in a single box, known as combined packaging. Each person, with their own unique circumstances, starts their work with a strong determination to do their best. However, many quit before they can last long due to various reasons, such as the inverse day-night routine, the low temperatures of the warehouse, and the physical limitations of having to stand continuously except for breaks. So, here, they have a probationary period of about a month, and employees who complete the training are given padded jackets. Here, padded jackets aren't just clothes; they're a kind of token of appreciation, given to those who have endured the month. ■ While You Were Sleeping At 11 p.m., refrigerated trucks handling early morning deliveries begin to arrive in the parking lot, one by one. Each driver is expected to deliver an average of 50 items per day, but the number of deliveries increases on weekends and Monday nights, when orders are high. On days with particularly high volumes, shipping delays occur, so sorting and loading items as they arrive is crucial. With a 7 a.m. deadline, drivers must utilize their expertise. They divide the stacked boxes into sections for easy delivery and meticulously plan delivery routes to minimize travel time. They race against the clock to complete deliveries before sunrise. "These days, the sun rises earlier, so I feel anxious as the sun begins to rise." The unit price is about three times higher than that of regular couriers, which cost 800-900 won per delivery, and they prefer the early morning hours when traffic is light.
