The 2025 budget discussions for the Ministry of National Education began with a protest in the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Committee. Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin was met with backlash from MPs during his handshake upon his arrival. The MPs, who reacted to the lack of free lunches for students, reminded Minister Tekin of the problems facing education. CHP Karabük MP Cevdet Akay showed Minister Tekin the milk, tangerines, and sandwiches he had brought with him and said, "These are foods that can be provided to our students daily, free of charge." Minister Tekin responded, "CHP municipalities should first bring in the money they spend on concerts." The Parliamentary Planning and Budget Committee has begun discussing the Ministry of National Education's 2025 budget. The budget will address the budgets, final accounts, and Court of Accounts reports of the Council of Higher Education, the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center, and universities, as well as the budget and final accounts reports of the Higher Education Quality Board. Minister Tekin faced protests from opposition MPs at the committee meeting. Sandwiches, milk, and tangerines were placed at the tables where the opposition MPs were seated. When National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin moved toward the opposition benches to greet the MPs attending the committee, the MPs voiced their concerns about the problems in education and reacted to Minister Tekin. Verbal exchanges also broke out between the CHP MPs and the AKP MPs, who reiterated their demands for free lunches in schools. "If children go to school hungry, the state should pay the price." CHP İzmir Deputy Rahmi Aşkın Türeli reacted by saying, "This is the state's duty, friends. If children go to school hungry, the state should pay the price. We will provide it everywhere in Türkiye." CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba, who stated that the free meal to be provided would cost a maximum of 50 lira, said, "If the state cannot provide it, CHP municipalities are ready to provide a free meal to students." CHP Manisa Deputy Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu, recalling Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan's call for CHP municipalities to pay their debts, said, "CHP municipalities are ready to clean schools and feed children, but unfortunately, you are trying to initiate seizure proceedings." AK Party deputies also reacted by telling CHP deputies, "First, clean up the pollution in İzmir Bay and hold them accountable for the concerts." CHP's Ağbaba reacted by saying, "Melih spent $750 million, give him an account for that. You shamelessly slander him, you've robbed Ankara and turned it into a mess.
