KIA PROCEED GT – The Cheapest and Most Beautiful Sporty Estate – Top 1 The new Kia Proceed arrives on the market with a stunning design. And with 204 hp in its GT version. It's more expensive than its near-twin, the Ceed Tourer, which is more family-oriented and spacious, but the sportiness of its design and those taillights end up stealing the heart of even the most cerebral driver. There are 120 hp and 160 hp options, but this Proceed must be tested in its 204 hp GT version, with an intoxicating sound for an estate car and fuel consumption figures that surprise even those of us who have been driving for decades. As always, it's not cheap, but it's one of those times when a design sculpted by the wind with class and style justifies any price… and this one isn't even the craziest, despite the existence of its sibling, the Ceed Tourer. This 204 hp 1.6-liter engine certainly makes perfect sense here, especially when you hear its sound, feel how glued to the road it sits, and experience its sporty character, even in a well-tuned dual-clutch transmission. But the real star of this car is undoubtedly the design, with lines and a rear end sculpted by the gods themselves, worthy of Porsche or any other top sports car brand. It's incredible to see how Kia can throw down such a challenge to the entire market and see how no one has the nerve to try and compete with them. There must be a reason. It's important to understand the differences when discussing this Proceed and comparing it to the RS6 or Panamera Shooting Brake. Of course, they're not comparable in terms of power or luxury, but it's equally true that for well under €40,000 you get a sporty sedan that can fulfill the desires of anyone who dreams of Stuttgart's Shooting Brake. Its 204 hp is there, playful, and the dual-clutch transmission and engine sound refine the overall experience immensely. The sloping roofline, starting at 1.42 meters at its highest point, is simply stunning. Inside, the GT trim boasts excellent fit and finish, with high-quality materials. While everything has a sporty feel, which is appreciated, many might find it helpful to avoid having to bend down to the seat every time you get in. The rear seats weren't anything to write home about either; the Ceed Tourer is miles ahead of the Proceed in this respect. But of course, each car competes with its own strengths, and often the heart trumps reason, because you have less legroom and a few liters less trunk space under the tailgate, although 594 liters is more than enough. Be aware that you lose almost 120 liters in the 160 hp mild-hybrid version. The driving feel is always sporty. In fact, I was expecting an Eco mode in the driving modes, but logic convinced the engineers to do without it. Comfort and Sport. And it's hard not to always drive in Sport mode. That's the truth. In any case, it performs flawlessly in both relaxed and sporty driving. Its 1,440 kg weight is a very good guarantee for its length, not to mention a very low center of gravity… but on the classic Madrid-Toledo route, we achieved an incredible 5.5 l/100 km, maintaining a consistent 120 km/h. It's true that on the return trip the figure rose to 6.1 l/100 km, but I don't think that's anything to be alarmed about. In fact, it's still a truly fantastic figure considering how this car performs and sounds. If you pay cash, be prepared to spend €36,650 for this 204 hp GT. Given current prices and what this car offers, it not only doesn't scare me, but I consider it an outstanding investment, especially knowing that the few units brought to Spain will be highly sought after on the resale market. If you finance it, the bill doesn't exceed €32,000, or €25,300 if you opt for the 1.0 120 hp engine, something I wouldn't do; such low power seems sacrilegious for such a work of art. The eco label for the 160 MHEV would be more understandable, and if you finance it, the price drops to just under €29,200. On the 'Would I Buy It' scale, the Kia Proceed GT scores an 8.9. I find it hard not to give it top marks, because I can't find any reason why it shouldn't, but I don't want to be labeled a "spoiled" fan of the brand or the model. Perhaps the fact that the Ceed Tourer is more economical and spacious, with a larger trunk, plays a role... but of course, that Porsche-like rear end steals your heart and prevents you from thinking about anything else... right?
