"Mother... Don't Forgive Me" This story reflects the lives of many working women who live like puppets in middle-class families, despite having financial freedom, without personal freedom, and their struggle for self-respect. ​Background & Theme ​The protagonist Geeta (a young woman in her mid-twenties) joins a job after completing her studies. It becomes a habit for her to bring all her earnings and put them in her father's hands, and to take the pocket money he gives her. The father is domineering and angry at home. The story is that the father, who scares everyone in the house, gives in to the words of the elder sister (the elder brother's wife). After the elder brother gets married, he stops giving his earnings to the household expenses and spends them on the luxuries of his wife. Since the younger brother's income is low, it is enough for their expenses. ​With this, Illalu (mother) is left as just a working machine, while the entire burden of the house is carried on the father's pension and Geeta's salary. Out of selfishness about how the house will run if the earning daughter gets married and leaves, all the family members, including the father, spoil every marriage relationship she has with some excuse. They do not see Geeta as a human being, but as just a "money-making machine".
