Buddy Holly But It's Deconstructed - Weezer (Isolated Tracks)

Probably one of Weezer's most well known songs Buddy Holly is a certified banger. The origins of the song can be traced back to June 25, 1993 where Cuomo explained, "...a kid named Steve Graff who lent me his Korg Keyboard. Inspired by its goofy synth sounds, I decided to write some new-wave influenced songs...The melody was in time to my steps: "ooo-we-ooo I look just like Buddy Holly." The lyrics I struggled with, trying to find the right reference point. An early version read, "ooo-we-ooo you look just like Ginger Rogers. Oh-oh I move just like Fred Astaire." So who knows in an alternate universe we could have all been singing Ginger Rogers by Weezer instead. The rest of the lyrics were inspired by some of the Weezer guys making fun of Cuomo's friend Kyung He. Thus his "homies dissin my girl" was born. Although Rivers was hesitant to record it at first as he wanted this to go out on Weezer's next album their producer Rick Ocasek eventually convinced them to, and on August 16, 1993 4-5 takes were recorded of Buddy Holly.
