Polémica por crítica de sacerdote sobre Juan Daniel Oviedo por su orientación sexual

Father Gabriel Vega, from the municipality of Valle de San José, spoke out after the controversy generated by a homily in which he made references to the national political situation and Senator Paloma Valencia's vice-presidential running mate, Juan Daniel Oviedo. The priest clarified that his message was not political or "politically motivated," but rather sought to guide the faithful from Church doctrine. "The homily was not delivered with a political purpose, but rather to illuminate the moral implications in the life of society," he explained. Regarding one of the points that generated the most controversy, the priest stated that "being homosexual is not a sin," but clarified that, in his interpretation, "what is wrong is the behavior." Along the same lines, he added that it is not about sexual orientation, but about conduct: "Even heterosexuals are sinners when they commit fornication." Vega insisted that the homily was directed at people of faith and aimed to strengthen social commitment based on the Gospel. He said the Church seeks to help Catholics form their moral conscience and participate in society by promoting the common good. “The Church is not politicized, nor does it discriminate based on political affiliation, sexual orientation, race, or color. It is a hospital for sinners where everyone seeks reconciliation with God,” he affirmed. Finally, the priest indicated that his message also aimed to highlight the responsibility of voting. “Our vote has a moral implication. We must elect people who seek the common good, in accordance with the values ​​taught in the Gospel,” he concluded. The priest asserted that the Church is neither pro-Petro nor right-wing nor left-wing, nor does it endorse any particular candidate; however, he acknowledged that its mission has a social component, focused on the well-being of society.
