Beverley Bergen "Wenn's an Macht zu der That dir gebricht" THE MAID OF ORLEANS (Tchaikovsky) 1982

The excellent New Zealand soprano, Beverly Bergen, enjoyed a busy career on the international operatic stages. In her own country, she was unrivaled in the coloratura and lyric soprano roles in her early career and then ranged out to the bigger, dramatic roles including Jenufa, Senta, Katerina Lvovna Ismailova in LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK and the Countess in CAPRICCIO - the latter two in their Australian premieres. Her career also included Violetta, Rosalinda, Musetta and Preziosilla. In 2000, Beverley Bergen hosted an 8-episode television series "Aria & Pasta", in which opera stars performed arias and prepared pasta dishes. She is heard here as Agnes in a concert performance of Tchaikovsky's THE MAID OF ORLEANS (sung in German translation). Tenor, Wolfgang Fassler, sings the role of the King in this aria and duet from Act II. The Berlin Philharmonic is under conductor Roland Bader in this performance from March 6th 1982.
