The city of Putina, known as the land of hot springs, is located in the northern part of the Puno region, nestled in an Andean landscape of hills and vast pastures. Its climate is cold, typical of the high plateau, and its people are friendly and hardworking. In the heart of the city lies the Plaza de Armas, renovated in 2017, where sculptures of traditional dances, the Municipal Palace, and the Church of San Antonio de Padua stand out. The latter is a majestic 18th-century colonial building declared a National Cultural Heritage site. From there, the view extends towards Apu Alqamarini, a sacred hill that shelters the statue of Christ of Peace, a symbol of faith and unity between Christianity and the Andean worldview. From the summit, breathtaking panoramic views of the entire city can be enjoyed. A few kilometers away are the Mijani Waterfalls, a 20-meter cascade surrounded by lush vegetation, and the Puya raimondii forest, home to this Andean plant that can reach over 10 meters in height and blooms only once in its lifetime. The journey culminates at the Putina hot springs, renowned for their medicinal properties that soothe muscle and respiratory ailments. With its natural landscapes, colonial history, and vibrant traditions, Putina presents itself as a place brimming with charm, culture, and well-being.
