📖 In the early 1960s, in Digne, Véronique Melliflore, a wealthy spinster, is murdered. Judge Chabrand calls on his old friend Laviolette, a retired police commissioner. At the victim's house, Chabrand and Laviolette find a short letter with an enigmatic message: "As you measure, it will be measured to you". The letter bears the Barles stamp. There, Laviolette meets some of the local figures: old Emile who digs his own grave so as not to be buried in his wife's vault, the schoolteacher, Félix, the morel mushroom picker... But they all stubbornly close their mouths when the police commissioner tries to question them. A few days later, Annette Melliflore is also found unconscious.
