川崎大師は、神奈川県川崎市川崎区にある真言宗智山派の大本山。正式名称は「金剛山 平間寺（こんごうさん へいけんじ）」。大治3年（1128年）に建立されました。毎年正月の三ヶ日には、全国から260万人以上の参詣者が訪れ賑わう川崎大師は、厄除のお寺として全国にその名が知られています。 文化10年（1813年）、第11代将軍徳川家斉が41才の前厄の厄除を祈願に公式参拝。これにより庶民はもとより武士階級にまで信仰が広がりました。 約900年前、平間兼乗（ひらまかねのり）という武士が、流浪の末にこの地に住みつき暮らしていました。ある夜、高僧が兼乗の夢枕に立ち海中に沈む仏像を引き上げるよう告げたのです。兼乗は海に出て、網を投ずると弘法大師の木像を引き揚げました。高野山の尊賢上人が諸国遊化の途中、この話を耳にし、兼乗のもとを訪れて兼乗と共に寺を建立したのです。そして、兼乗の姓である平間から平間寺と号し、御本尊を厄除弘法大師と称し奉ったのでした。以来約900年間、東日本有数の寺院として今日まで続いています。 真言宗智山派／神奈川県川崎市 ____________________________________________________ Kawasaki Daishi is the head temple of the Chizan School of Shingon Buddhism, located in Kawasaki-ku, Kawasaki-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture. Its official name is Kongosan Heikenji Temple. The temple was built in 1128. Kawasaki Daishi is known throughout the country as a temple for ridding the country of bad luck, and attracts more than 2.6 million visitors from all over the country on the three days of the New Year each year. In 1813, the 11th shogun Ienari Tokugawa made an official visit to pray for warding off evil at the age of 41. As a result, the faith spread not only among the common people but also among the warrior class. About 900 years ago, a samurai named Hirama Kanenori settled in this area after wandering in exile. One night, a high priest stood over him in his dream and told him to pull up a Buddha statue that was sinking in the sea. Kanenori went out to the sea, cast a net, and pulled up the wooden statue of Kobo Daishi. Sonken Shonin, a priest of Koyasan, heard this story during his travels around the country, visited Kanenari, and built a temple with Kanenori. The temple was named Heikenji Temple after his family name, Hirama, and its principal image was dedicated to Kobo-Daishi for preventing bad luck. Since then, the temple has remained one of the leading temples in eastern Japan for about 900 years.
