First Day of 2026 Spring Trout Stocking (B-Roll)
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) began its annual operations to stock approximately 3.2 million trout in hundreds of lakes and streams in preparation for the spring trout season. Executive Director Tim Schaeffer, staff, and volunteers stocked the first trout of the season at Opossum Lake, Cumberland County. With stocking underway, all waters statewide managed as Stocked Trout Waters will now remain closed to fishing until the Opening Day of Trout Season at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, with the exception of Mentored Youth Trout Day on Saturday, March 28. Some waters being stocked with trout, including 24 Keystone Select Trout Waters, are open to catch-and-release fishing immediately under Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only regulations. The PFBC’s 2026 Trout Stocking Schedule, Fishing Summary regulation booklet, and information on purchasing a fishing license and trout permit are available on the PFBC website (Fishandboat.com).
