Two years later, Tsitsipas overthrew Federer at the Australian Open, while Thiem came close to winning Roland Garros against Nadal. A generation of explosive talent, promised a golden future. At the time, one thing was certain: by 2025, these players would be racking up Grand Slam titles. The changeover seemed inevitable, the dominance of the Big Three on the verge of faltering. But nothing went as planned. The years passed, and the Next Gen suffered a string of failures, lost finals, and comebacks against the legends they were supposed to dethrone. The numbers are stark: 80 Majors for the 80s generation, only two for this 90s generation. And today, a new wave has already taken over, with Alcaraz and Sinner, leaving Tsitsipas and Zverev without a single Grand Slam. How can we explain this resounding failure?
