Peptide therapeutics are an increasingly important drug modality, offering the ability to bridge key gaps between small molecules and biologics across a range of disease areas. However, their clinical development is often limited by challenges such as metabolic instability, low permeability, and rapid clearance, underscoring the need for tailored strategies to understand and mitigate peptide metabolism. In this Flash Talk, Bin Ma, Senior Principal Scientist at Genentech, will discuss common metabolic pathways peptide therapeutics undergo. Bin will also share in vitro assays used to characterize and anticipate metabolic pathways in vivo and highlight medicinal chemistry strategies that have been successfully applied to improve metabolic stability and pharmacokinetic properties of peptide therapeutics.
