Twenty-Two Hundredth Video Special - Island Horizon Videos 2200

Welcome to the Twenty -Two Hundredth Video Special. There have been questions that people I know, Ask me about my channel and my videos throughout the years and I figured I’d share them with you. Question: Why don’t you play music as back ground for your videos? Answer: There are so many answers for this question. First of all getting a copy strike from YouTube for using copyrighted music. Another reason is I think music would be annoying, for a few reasons, like what if it’s a song you don’t like? That would ruin the video. I think it’s much better to have natural sound, because I see my videos as a way of relaxing and meditating. If you want to hear music while watching my videos, play what ever you want to hear while watching. Question: Why do you not move the camera during your videos? Answer: There are some videos where I move my camera, but for the most part I don’t. My original concert for this channel was to have my videos play on a big screen tv, where the screen would be like a canvas, while my video would be like a animated seascape. I remember when I was young I’d see big pictures of seascapes, my videos are the same, except they move. When I started posting videos, they would be from 20 minutes to an hour in length. But I eventually shortened them to 10 minutes, when I found most people watch for 5 to 7 minutes. Question: Does it bother you that you don’t have many subscribers and the fact that you aren’t monetized? Answer: No, not at all. My fear of getting monetized is that they will start running commercials in the middle of my videos. I actually don’t pay for YouTube, which allows me to watch YouTube like everyone else does. So far I haven’t seen any commercial interruptions. Question: Why do you work on your channel if it isn’t making you money? (I was actually asked this) Answer: I used to draw, write and record music, sometimes still do, that no one will ever see or hear. because I enjoy creating, money has nothing to do with it. Question: Why did you start making these videos? Answer: I live in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. About eight years ago, It looked like I would be moving back to the mainland. So I started making videos so I can remember what it was like. I made about fifty videos before I decided what to do with them. A friend of mine who was making podcasts for YouTube, told me I should make a music type podcast, because that is really my main interest. But I really wanted to go in a completely different direction. On my many trips to the ocean or beach, I always noticed that everyone stares out to the horizon, for hours on end, myself included. I’ve always thought of the ocean as being relaxing. I once rented a condo on the water in Kauai, the sound of the waves outside the window  was so calming I slept like a baby.  Question: How do you pick the videos on your top ten countdowns? Answer: When I would get to the 95th video in a season, I would ask viewers to pick their favorite videos of that season. I did that for a long time, but I would be in such a mad rush to make the anniversary videos that it became stressful, especially when I run into issues while making the video. What I do now and it seems to work, is, from the beginning of the season I keep track of  positive comments and likes. I also keep track of videos I really like, example: When I posted video #2176 ,I said it was my favorite. So it became number one. That view of that video, I had planned for weeks. I had filmed the scene before, but the afterglow wasn’t in the video and I really wanted to have people in the shot. So video #2176 came out exactly like I envisioned. Towards the end of the season, I go through all of the videos again, keep track of the likes and comments one more time. I usually have the video ready 5 days before posting, but make last minute changes and finish the video 2 days before publishing. Question: What’s with the “IN 4K”? Answer: The auto setting for video playback on YouTube is 1080p HD. Ten years ago this was high quality. But now 4K is, 4K means 4000 pixels. So the more pixels, the higher quality picture, More lifelike. This is how you can tell if you are watching in 4k on YouTube: Go to one of my YouTube videos, Position your mouse on the video, move your mouse onto the icon that looks like a “gear”, on the bottom right and click. Look at “quality” and it will tell you what it is set on. If it’s not set at 2160P 4k, click on the drop down menu next to the setting, you might have to slide up and select the highest. You WILL notice the difference in quality. One last word. I hope I didn’t bore everyone, but I hope it answers any questions.
