These works span a period of nearly 1,000 years and encompass a geographical area from Arabia to Spain to India. It is a decorative art that makes extensive use of geometric shapes, floral and plant motifs, and calligraphic forms. Techniques and materials include mosaic, ceramic, and sculpture in various types of stone. But beware: Islamic art prohibits the worship of idols representing Allah and Muhammad, which is why it is an art form without figures and icons.
