Spanish Grammar: Using the verb “ACABAR” – “I’ve just...”

I will show you how to make sentences using a very practical verb in Spanish: "acabar" -- to finish, to end, to have just done something. The verb "acabar" has many possibilities. It is like a verb that went to the United States and opened the opportunities for its future. In fact, sometimes I feel like the verb "acabar" because I started to upload my videos on YouTube and my students multiplied. The verb "acabar" is a neglected, hard-working fellow who quietly tightens your Spanish screws, makes your Spanish more straight, even, clear, clean, well done, and gives you the correct angle on what you want to say. There are many ways to use the verb "acabar" in Spanish, and they are all important, handy, and easy to learn. So just to give you an example, if you use the verb "acabar" in present (acabo, acabas, acaba, etc.), plus the preposition "de", plus a verb in infinitive (non-conjugated form of the verb), you end up with something like "Acabo de hablar con Joaquín" (I've just talked to Joaquin), "Acabo de ver a Yolanda" (I've just seen Yolanda), "Acabo de comer" (I've just eaten). You may also use the verb "acabar" plus a noun with an article when you simply want to express that you finished something at some point in the past. So "acabo de" is kind of a past action that is connected to the present, it is like a past but very present action in a way. The action expressed with "acabo de" is linked to now in one way or another, and "acabo" without the preposition "de" is simply a past action, not particularly related to the present.
