Saint Demiana - The Great Saint and Martyr | Saints Stories for Kids

Saint Demiana was born in third-century Egypt and was the only child of her pious Christian parents. When still young, her mother departed and her father, Mark, became her sole caretaker. Mark loved his daughter dearly and taught her well about the Christian faith. St. Demiana was only fifteen when her father wanted her to get married to one of his noble friends, but St. Demiana refused. As was once the great desire of our Holy Mother St. Mary, St. Demiana also had no intention to marry but preferred to devote her life solely to God. At such a young age, being the only child in a wealthy family, St. Demiana could have desired many other things. She could have chosen a life of leisure and luxury but just as St. Paul said, “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ” (Phil. 3:8) so too, our beloved Saint understood the vanity of living such a life and instead, chose the “better part” (Luke 10;42) (source: https://convent.suscopts.org/saint-de...) #coptic #saints #church
